COURSES TAUGHT

The following are a number of courses that Phil Ackland has taught (and currently teaches):

Fire Investigation Course (on Phil Ackland's Inspector website): This course is for anyone involved fire investigation (investigators, attorneys, insurance agencies, etc). It provides extensive information on system compliance to the codes and common origins and causes of commercial kitchen fires. Additionally, it covers questions to ask of the people and companies of interest when a restaurant fire occurs. It includes an intensive picture and video presentation of real restaurant systems. The course generally runs for 1 day.

Inspection Course (on Phil Ackland's Inspector website): This course is tailored to Building and Fire Inspectors. It provides extensive information on how to determine if the exhaust system, associate equipment and appliances are in compliance with local jurisdictional building and fire codes. Additionally, it will cover the responsibilities of the installers, manufacturers and various service providers associated with the field. It generally includes on-site tours of active restaurant systems. The course generally runs from 1 to 2 days.

Cleaning Courses: A variety of subjects are covered focusing on improving the knowledge base of commercial kitchen exhaust cleaners. This course will include information on NFPA #96, IMC and other Code bodies. Additionally, how to set-up and clean exhaust systems, the various aspects of this field, and what and how to use the tools of the trade are covered. It also discusses sales and marketing concepts, to assist new operators to get into this business. Courses generally run from 2 to 5 days.
